In a 2011 article in Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts magazine titled "Maximum Control", Joanne Lockwood (a pioneer of modern scrollsawing) describes how to practice making accurate cuts. This is an excellent place to begin learning how to use your scrollsaw. Many of us "old timers" still use Joanne's practice pattern (included in the article) to "warm-up" before starting our latest projects in earnest. See below for the article.

While it may be tempting to try to "dive right in" to more complex and intricate projects, we recommend that beginners start with very simple projects until they become more familiar with operating their scrollsaw and developing good control over their blade cutting. Our club has a number of patterns for "cut-outs" (simple outline figures like cats, dogs, dolphins, dinosarus, etc.) in our Members Only section - click here (password protected).
FYI - With the exception of most orders placed with Bear Woods with the discount code CUTUPS (for which our club receives a small fee), any links on our website to outside firms, organizations or other entities are included only to make it convenient for you to access more information about the subject at hand, and our club does not have any financial interest in whether or not you follow any of these links or whether or not you buy anything through these links (in cases where there are products available for purchase).
